Boiler Mountings

Different fittings and devices necessary for the operation and safety of the boiler are known as ‘boiler mountings’.

The devices used for safe working of boiler:

A. Safety fittings:

1. Safety valves. 2. Water level indicator. 3. Fusible plug.

The devices essential for boiler operation:

B)Control fittings:

1. Steam pressure gauge. 2. Feed check valve.

Name of Boiler Mounting & Function

♦️Safety valve : Do not allow boiler pressure to rise beyond its safe working pressure.

♦️Water level indicator : Shows working level of water in the boiler.

♦️ Pressure gauge : Indicates working pressure of boiler.

♦️Stęam stop valve: Regulates the amount of outgoing steam.

♦️Feed check valve : Checks the amount of feed water going to the boiler and does not allow its return.

♦️Blow-off clock : Allows to drain water from boiler for its cleaning.

♦️Fusible plug : Stops the boiler if its heating surface is overheated due to low water level.

Boiler Accessories

Different fittings used for smooth functioning and increasing efficiency, of boiler are kncwn as boiler accessories.

The functioas of boiler accessories are :-

1. To increase the efficiency of the boiler.
2. To help in smooth working of the boiler.

Name of Boiler Accesories & function :

♦️Economiser : Preheating of feed water by utilizing the heat of waste flue gases.

♦️Superheater : Increase the temperature of steam at constant pressure beyond saturation.

♦️preheater : Preheat the fresh air by using the heat of waste flue gases.

♦️Steam injector : Lift and force the feed water into the Boiler
